First debuted at my Long Beach Museum of Art Solo Show, these “uniCAN!” sculptures were created to symbolize my belief in making the impossible possible… you CAN! achieve anything you put your mind to! :)

Sculpted from oil clay and transformed into bronze, these sculptures undergo a rhythmic process to achieve their unique appearance.  Each element of the sculpture was created to have a life of its own.  I used my fingerprints to press and pull the clay, giving each fur strand a unique, dynamic feel; the tail was twisted in one motion, giving it movement and energy; and the hair on its head, I am particularly proud of, was achieved by placing and then tearing off chunks of clay, which created an unplanned, natural look.  These methods reflect my artistic philosophy of letting art happen, rather than over-sculpting every detail… the process felt impressionistic to me, similar to the mark making of artists like Van Gogh or Monet.

I envision the “uniCAN!” joyfully dancing, getting ready to take off and soar towards their biggest and wildest dreams because... if you CAN! dream it, you CAN! achieve it :)
