The Origins of
“Smiles” Hand Oil-Painted Sculpture
The original edition of 8 bronze “Smiles” has sold out and is living in collector’s homes around the world.
“Smiles” began as an oil clay sculpture and was then casted into bronze.
Smiles then became a painting and is now a sculpture painted with oil paint!
Inspired by the idea of combining Brent’s two loves: colorful, joyous oil paintings and expressively cute, innovative sculpting.
“Smiles” hand oil-painted sculptures are created by Brent and JP Frey, all in-house with no outside fabrication.
Brent sculpts, JP creates the molds and casts, Brent finishes and hand-oil paints the details.
The Story of “Smiles”
“Smiles” upside-down head represents being a rule-breaker. Like Brent and many of his collectors, “Smiles” is a symbol of being a disruptor and, as his motto goes, “Different is Good”.
Brent’s collector Chef Nobu Matsuhisa is the epitome of what “Smiles” represents! He disrupted the global culinary scene by blending traditional Japanese sushi techniques with bold Peruvian flavors and high-end celebrity hospitality.
