“Sky, Ocean, Beach, Garden” was painted on 19th and The Strand. Looking north out towards Malibu, this painting was inspired by the rose garden over looking the beach… however, I “planted” a few more flowers and removed a few clouds from the sky ;)
Fun side note… these flowers were gifted to my wife Tara from our good friends and Collectors Dan and Lolo for match-making the two together.
As mentioned before, my Impressions series was inspired for my love of the great Impressionist (Monet, Van Gogh, Renior…) and this was most inspired for the love and desire to paint flowers. The domination subject of this painting is the bountiful rose garden in the foreground however, as I began to create this painting, and all future paintings, I realized that all elements within my art are deserve the same intention. The title of this piece is so because I wanted to highlight the importance of element within the painting.
As mentioned in previous Stories, i create from back to front and thus the first element of this painting to be created was the sky. The movement and brushstrokes of the sky was directly inspired from one of my favorite paintings, Vincent Van Gogh’s 1889, “Wheat Field with Cypressess”
