‍ Smiles" Oil Painted Sculpture

• These are the World’s first hand oil paint sculptures created and painted by the artist… a.k.a. me!

• Combining a sculpture and oil painting into one art piece.

• If I can claim to be a master of something, it is oil paint color. This is why I chose to paint these sculptures using oil paint for its unmatched beauty in color and the unmistakable aliveness and intrigue of its texture.

• Smiles and the teddy bears in my art represents the playfulness of childhood and is meant to inspire play into our lives… especially as adults.

• The upside down head represents going against the grain in life and creating your own path… being a disruptor. Smiles motto: “Different is Good”

• This sculpture was created by taking a direct mold of my 2018 “Smiles” bronze sculpture, as seen at his Long Beach Museum of Art solo show 2022-23… all the bronzes are completely sold out!

• Created completely in-house in Manhattan Beach with JP Frey. I personally participate in every aspect of the creation process: original oil clay sculpture, silicone mold making, resin pouring, prepping and finishing raw resin sculpture and, finally, oil painting… That is intentional creating!

• These sculptures are meant to be a beacon of playful inspiration and a reminder to embrace your special ability of being different… being somebody uniquely special.

• At some point during childhood, everyone plays with their favorite toys for the very last time without knowing it. It happens virtually without any notice. This Smiles sculpture is meant to invite back that childhood playfulness and wonder.

This was the first inception of Smiles and the upside down head that eventually became a symbol of Different is Good and ultimately a symbol of Brent himself.
