The process of creating Trix was deeply tied to my personal meditation practice. For a long time it was displayed near my meditation space in my studio, and as I contemplated it with an introspective mindset day after day, I would feel the occasional pull to add a certain element. People often ask how I know when a painting is complete. In the case of Trix, it came down to one brushstroke... as soon as I had placed it, I felt the piece had instantly come together and finally had everything it needed. For those curious as to what that finishing touch was, I welcome you to examine the piece with close attention to find it… I guarantee you will discover many more fascinating details along the way:)

Trix has a special kind of liveliness to it, a quality born of a patient and intuitive approach to painting. To get the bunny’s rich caramel fur just right, each thick impasto brushstrokes had to placed both intentionally and organically; to match the energy of the fur, it was important to capture the same freedom of movement in the blue interiors of the ears, the red bow, and the green-tipped feet while simultaneously communicating depth through shadows and highlights. Unlike the smooth brayered backgrounds of most other Crazy Stuffed Animals, the background of this piece is made up of swift gestural brushstrokes that further bolster the playful and vibrant form of the bunny.
